Disney Through the Decades – 1930’s

In 2023, Disney is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Walt Disney Company with its 100 Years of Wonder celebration. To commemorate this momentous occasion, we’re celebrating right there with them with our breakdown of the history of the Walt Disney Company, decade by decade. If you haven’t checked out our breakdown of the decade that started it all – the 1920’s – check it out here.

The 1930’s was a big decade for the Disney Company. Mickey Mouse was more popular than ever and Silly Symphonies were a huge hit. Color made it’s way into animation – the Silly Symphony “Flowers and Trees” was the first all color cartoon. Mickey made his first color appearance in the short, “The Band Concert.” And the duck with the sweetest disposition was introduced to the world. That’s right! Donald made his debut in “The Little Hen.”

On top of that, Walt Disney wanted to embark on one of his most adventurous projects to date – a full-length animated feature. It had never been done by anyone before and Hollywood thought it would be his downfall. But Walt pursued and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was born and the Golden Era of Disney began.

Shop the Decade

As part of the 100 Years of Wonder celebration, Disney is releasing new merchandise inspired by each of the decades each month. Take a peek at the 1930’s collections from ShopDisney as well as some of our picks of 1930’s Disney inspired items from Amazon:

The 1930’s was huge for Disney’s short cartoons. The 1930’s collection on ShopDisney is loaded with goodies to celebrate. This Loungefly mini-backpack of Mickey in “The Band Concert” is so cute. We love Loungefly’s mini-backpacks to use as our park bags. They are just the right size for everything we need. You can also pick up a plush set of the Three Little Pigs. Fiddler, Fifer, and Practical pig have never looked so good! And Clarabelle and Horace Horsecollar take center stage on this brand new MagicBand+ and pin set.

Snow White may not be the best Disney movie of all time but it was the first. And you can’t deny that it is an undeniably adorable aesthetic. That Snow White Ear Headband from the 1930’s collection is so sweet. It’s the second in the decades series, featuring scenes from the movie and Snow White’s signature look on the bow. Complete the ensemble with these Snow White cosplay items from Loungefly. The mini backpack, handbag, and wallet will round out your Snow White look perfectly.

Peep these Snow White decor items as well! This brand-new Snow White movie poster Funko Pop! is absolutely amazing. And I’m obsessed with this Snow White insulated tumbler from Tervis. The artwork on it is stunning and Tervis products always keep your coffee hot way longer than it takes to drink it. We love them!

This list would not be complete without including Donald! There’s really way too much good stuff to list it all here but here’s some of our favorites. We love a Loungefly and this Donald mini-backpack and wallet is no exception. I can’t believe the cuteness that is this Donald Duck Squishmallow! And we can’t forget the Funko Pop’s! Check out this Black and White Donald Duck made specifically for the Disney100 celebration.

See ya real soon!
