When Disney built their Aulani Resort in Ko Olina, Hawai’i, they were inspired by the welcoming spirit of the islands. The goal was to create a true home away from home for all guests who come to visit.
With multiple pools and coves to splash around in, the white sands of Ko Olina beach, the endless relaxation of the Laniwai Spa, and so much more, you may think that’s all you need for the perfect getaway. But this stunning resort has so much more to offer guests of all ages.
Here’s three things you may not have known you could do at Disney’s Aulani Resort:
Explore the beauty of Hawai’i
Walt Disney Imagineers created Aulani resort as a special place that celebrates the beauty of the islands. Explore the beautiful natural landscape and the local culture with a complimentary guided Māka‘ika‘i or tour.
- Māka‘ika‘i, The Nature and Wildlife of Aulani Resort: This tour takes you on a walking tour through the resort for an in-depth look at the perfectly curated balance of manmade structures and natural surroundings. A tour guide will highlight the broad canopy of the Waikolohe Valley and the other beautiful natural spaces that call Aulani home.
- Māka‘ika‘i, The Art of Aulani Resort: This tour offers the chance to see how local artists helped tell the stories of Hawai’i throughout the art and design of the Aulani Resort. Along the way, a guide walks you through unique interior design aspects, dramatic storytelling murals and one of the largest collections of contemporary Hawaiian artwork on the islands.
Schedules are available on the Daily ‘Iwa (aka Aulani’s daily activities schedule) on the Aulani Resort mobile app.
Discover new surprises
Ever heard of the Menehune? These mischievous little creatures are lurking all over Aulani Resort. According to local legend, they are a little bit shy and a little bit magical. If you’re in the mood for exploring, then the Menehune Adventure Trail may be for you.
This high-tech, interactive scavenger hunt will have you looking at the Resort in a whole new way. You’ll use a special tablet to solve riddles, discover hidden wonders, and learn more about Hawaiian history.
Kids will love getting involved in the search. This is a fun activity for the family to do together. Or kids who are a little bit older can try it out on their own.
Learn the ‘ukulele
Music is such a huge part of Hawaiian culture. All throughout the resort you can often hear the delightful chords of the ‘ukulele. And when you’re ready, you can learn to play this popular instrument right at the resort.
During the 45-minute session, you’ll learn about the history of some traditional Hawaiian instruments. You’ll also learn a few chords on the ‘ukulele! By the end of the class you’ll be able to play along with some popular songs.
Adults and kids alike will love learning how to play this fun instrument. You can find the lessons at the Pau Hana Room at the resort.
